AOL Users

Hello! Thank you for your recent feedback regarding the November 15
retirement of the myAOL site (http://my.aol.com) and the Web version of
AOL Favorites (http://favorites.aol.com).

Important Note: This change only affects the Web version of Favorites
and NOT the Favorites in the AOL Desktop Software experience. We
apologize to any AOL Software users who were confused by this.

We are hoping to give all Web Favorites users ample time to export your
Favorites so that you can have that file saved to your machine which can
then be imported elsewhere. You can find the instructions on how to do
this copied in below.

If you run into any problems exporting your files, we recommend trying
an alternate Web browser like Firefox or Chrome. Please respond to this
email address if you still run into any problems with the export process
and we will do our best to help.

Thank you for your continued support of AOL!
The AOL Homepages Team

Hi Bill,

I have been using IE8 for quite a while (XP, so no IE9 available); for a
time now, it has been a nuisance, frequently failing to fire up until I
have tried several times.

I have put up with the failures because I trust MS is trying to protect
me from hackers, malware, etc, by using DEP (data execution prevention).

What I can't understand is that, if I just keep clicking on my icon (or
a hyperlink) IE8 will eventually start, even though I've done nothing
else.

Is there something wrong with my copy of IE8, is there something wrong
with DEP, or is there something I need to do? I have not changed to
another browser (without DEP) as my default, but I have been tempted to
do so because of the frustration involved.

I would appreciate some opinions from others.

Thanks,

Rob in Whyalla

buffalo says For a beginning, boot into safe mode and see if it starts
normally.
Next disable all of the add ons listed in tools under manage add ons. If
you havent used malware bytes to scan your computer yet, give that a
try.
If there is still no difference it may be necessary to retrograde your
system to
Windows 7 and then reinstall Windows 8. It really seems that perhaps a
corrupt file is slowing things down or a piece of badly written
software/malware
slowing things up or perhaps a few damaged cylinders on your hard drive
