Buff, haven't needed to write for so long and now have a problem
that I can't solve.
HP-vista,m7757c, 2048 MB memory, 400GB hard drive, wireless keyboard
& mouse. HP Printer C7280 AIO. AOL and Gmail.
Had computer up and running and someone came to door so left
computer on and probably was an hour before I got back to it and
when I did I did not have a desktop. I restarted the computer and
it got worse. I now get black screen with no task bar and no START.
I have nothing.
I can double click CTRL twice and get google and get to internet
that way and the google sidebar comes on and that is all. I
re-downloaded AOL so that I could get my mail and I know that when
I click it off I will have nothing again. Please help, make the
instructions (if there are any) very simple and step by step, as I
am not real computer literate.
Hope someone can help with this problem.

Have you tried booting into safe mode with networking . If you can
do that and it works
then see if you can do a system restore and run malware programs
Thanks, tried that and looked on internet and many people have had
this problem and only way they could correct is to do a recovery. I
did that and now I have days of work ahead of me to download my
programs , update and try to get my docs and pictures from Mozy.

Hello Buff and All,
In my Yahoo email I have lots of folders with pics and attacments.I
could not figure out how
to clean and delete those folders.Those folders are located on my
left side of my email just
below the Trash, Sent, Draft. Inside those folders I have lots
unwanted stuff but there is not
any Delete button only 'Save to your Computer'.Is there a way to
clean up those folders?

Help please! I put a CD that I burned quite awhile ago into my CD
drive and couldn't open the CD. Thinking there was something wrong
with my CD rom (and not the CD) I took it took a neighbor. He had no
trouble opening it and transferring the contents to his desktop.
When he tried to open the CD rom drawer to insert a blank tape so we
could burn a new CD, the door wouldn't open!! I scanned the contents
and there was no virus there, so I'm guessing something on the
actual CD disc is causing this problem. I transferred the file from
his desktop to a memory stick, brought it home, scanned it again,
and burned a new CD, which works perfectly.
However - how can I fix his CD door? Can you help me?
Coincidentally, I now can't open my DVD door either!!!

There is a small pin hole located on one side of the cd drawer
if you insert a pin in there it will release th locking mechanism so
the door can be opened.
Inspect the cd for any type of cracks or damage and check against
another cd to see if there is a thickness difference

Sometimes when I turn my computer off it gets as far as the
"Windows is shutting down" screen - and that's where it stops; never
shuts off completely; I have to do it manually. I wait a few
seconds, turn it back on and it almost always shuts down correctly
the second time, but if I walk away and forget to check - it stays
on all night!
I installed Soluto, which Bill recommended, and I like. Now I seem
to need a similar thing to close down!!

buffalo says when I see this on my computers it is usually because a
program is not closing
fully before the shutdown sequence times out. On Vista and 7 they
rell you what
program is the problem and you can shut it down manually. Try
shortening the amount of time between
reboots especially if you do heavy graphics. Close down any open
programs especially
messengers and wait till your hard drive calms down before starting
the shutdown sequence and let me know if that helps
