someone in the group knows one. The one I had found a lot of
programs with hooks but

I reran Microsoft Fixit again and it came up with AGsearchHook
Class, but since it was running, nothing could be done about it. Do
you know what it is and how to stop or delete it? vegaspat
None of these things produced the answer. I did re-run
MICROSOFT
FIXIT CENTER and it came up with one of the updates from
Microsoft.
However, I lost it somehow and after I reran MFC, it showed
nothing
wrong. I might as well pull out the rest of my hair. Thank you
for
your help.... Oh, yes, the shadows have disappeared, but I
don't
know why. So the problem now, is the freezing up .

Yes, there is, but it is extreme.. Also, you don't need ANY
antivirus programs, either.. Sounds magical, huh?? There are several
programs that produce a virtual machine. The one I use from time to
time is "Wondershare Time freeze".. Invoke it before you start to
surf, then fear no evil.. You can then be infected with a dozen
viruses without any harm... To get rid of them, just restart your
computer.. All gone... I don't recommend using a VM, all the time,
for all users.. But, there are certain times when I find it
necessary... Check out link for more information, beware it has a
lot of "geek" talk that you won't understand....

Hello Bill and other clever folk.
But my question is... is there a program that can stop that type of
malware infecting a computer?
I have a friend-built computer, 3GH, 3 gig ram,
running XP pro. SP3, and all updates.

Buffalo says Something that may help is downloading Web of Trust or
Mcafee's
Site Adviser and if the site has been reported at least there will
be a warning
that you are wading into trouble. There are programs that have an
active
anti-spyware component like spybot search and destroy but some are
not compatible
with antivirus programs like Norton and MSE that have their own anti
spyware built in.
You can always switch to Linux which not many write malware programs
for, yet.
