For Bonnie in SC:
Try the Portable version of SUPERAntiSpyware from
http://superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html
Follow the instructions on the page!
Hope this helps, Cheryl T. (Auckland, NZ)

None of these things produced the answer. I did re-run MICROSOFT
FIXIT CENTER and it came up with one of the updates from Microsoft.
However, I lost it somehow and after I reran MFC, it showed nothing
wrong. I might as well pull out the rest of my hair. Thank you for
your help.... Oh, yes, the shadows have disappeared, but I don't
know why. So the problem now, is the freezing up .
I have a couple of problems. First one - suddenly I have
shadows after everything.. .the end of a sentence, end of a
word,
etc.
Second one - my Internet Explorer 8 has suddenly gone bonkers.
When I try to read an article on Yahoo, it will stay a couple
of
seconds and then the window changes to 'Windows cannot display
the
webpage'. Sometimes when playing a game with simulated slots,
it
just freezes and it takes some time to come out of it. Other
times
it randomly decides to lock up. Does it sound like a virus (I
have
run SuperAntiSpyware) or do I need to re-install Internet
Explorer?
Any help would be appreciated, it is driving me crazy.
Thank you very much.....vegaspat

Rub Bit defender's online scan
http://www.bitdefen der.com/scanner/ online/free. html
I had already done the first one, the second one, did nothing
and the third one brought
virus detected: Gen: Trojzn.Heur. VB.nm0@de5T8Nai but could
not delete it. Do you know how to get rid of it? I ran Avast and
it didn't see it. Thanks
buffalo says most scanners have heuristic scanning built into them.
If it picks up
registry changes or code that resembles a known virus it is supposed
to quarantine it.
The only problem is that some companies that are legit use code that
may have similarities to
exploits and removing them would render the program useless. There
are some with similar
names that are variants of Vundo. If you haven't yet try running
your scans in safe mode
with SAS and AVAST

Hey Buffalo,
My Daddy's computer can access email (separate icon on desktop) just
fine. However, when he pulls up Internet Explorer (IE), it goes
crazy and opens a bunch of browers, one after another. I tried to
help him but I just couldn't fix the problem. I ran the Malware
Bytes. In safe mode, I ran the Trend Micro virus scan (I hate that
one). Nothing was found. I even reset the defaults, rebooted (2
x) and the problem continues. Daddy is suffering internet
withdrawal!
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Update
Hey Buff,
My Daddy is almost 86 years old so he depends on my brother to fix
his computer. I can do the simple stuff like running scans, etc.
My brother has it fixed where I can't do a system restore, so he
will have to take care of that. I did tell Daddy I use Avast and
prefer it. I cleared all the cookies, temp internet files, etc. at
the very beginning. I tried to use Mozilla Firefox as a browser but
that didn't work, either.
Daddy doesn't download programs. My brother told him not to do so.
So, I am limited to what I can do for him. Yes, I was signed on as
administrator when I did all that.
He has windows xp. That's what I have, too, except my pc is not as
old.
Thanks for your help!
Bk
You'd probably be best pulling his drive and installing in a clean
machine to scan. But, you can do it in his machine if necessary.
Double check and make sure System Restore is off when you ran the
scans. Make sure there is just one anti-virus program running.
Make sure all of the programs you're using are up to date.
1. Scan the computer with the program, in this case probably Avast.
2. Update and rerun Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/
3. Run CCleaner - http://www.piriform.com/
If all else fails back up the data and use the restore disks.

Help please! I put a CD that I burned quite awhile ago into my CD
drive and couldn't open the CD. Thinking there was something wrong
with my CD rom (and not the CD) I took it took a neighbor. He had no
trouble opening it and transferring the contents to his desktop.
When he tried to open the CD rom drawer to insert a blank tape so we
could burn a new CD, the door wouldn't open!! I scanned the contents
and there was no virus there, so I'm guessing something on the
actual CD disc is causing this problem. I transferred the file from
his desktop to a memory stick, brought it home, scanned it again,
and burned a new CD, which works perfectly.
However - how can I fix his CD door? Can you help me?
Coincidentally, I now can't open my DVD door either!!!
Sue
