Equality Bloggers

Martin Luther King Jr., one of the 20th century's most notable advocates for equality.

Recent history has seen major advances in ensuring equality for every member of our society. During the 50s and 60s here in the United States, we witnessed African Americans fighting to gain equality. Their struggle resulted in the 1964 passage of the Civil Rights Act. In more recent memory, the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990. This bill ensures, among other things, that Americans with disabilities can physically access public spaces and businesses and have equal access to employment and educational opportunities.

Despite these large leaps forward, there are still many obstacles to equality. Gallant2000 is a group whose mission is to educate people about diversity and equality. One of the tools they use to reach their goal is their Equality Blog. The blog is a forum where five regular contributors and a host of guest authors write about diversity and equality. The posts on the blog cover the whole spectrum as far as these topics are concerned and readers will find everything from accounts of authors' personal encounters with discrimination to objective critiques of how effectively governments are providing equal access to employment, education and public services.

Blogger Challenge

Joan Baez and Bob Dylan sing during a Civil Rights march on Washington D.C.

The champions of equality from past generations have already earned their place in history. Yet, inequality is still an issue that needs to be addressed in our society and we're looking for today's heroes who, along with the Gallant2000 writers, are ready to take up this important cause.

We are challenging bloggers around the world to write a blog post about diversity and equality. There are no rules or restrictions. Write a serious post. Write a poem. Take a photograph. Do whatever moves you and you think will inspire others.

After you write your post, send us a link. We'd love to see what you create. We'll put up a blog post on BlogCatalog with excerpts from and links to any amazing posts you share with us. If you'd like to take up the challenge but need some more information or inspiration, head over to the Equality Blog. You can share your posts with us by sending an email with a link to jason@blogcatalog.com.
